SAFETY AND SECURITY

We observe stringent safety and security policies to ensure the welfare and safety of all children on our premises, including touch pad entry codes and well-defined Sign In/Sign Out procedures.  Further information regarding safety procedures is included in the Parent Handbook provided to every parent at the time of their child's enrollment at Extended Love Child Development Center (ELCDC).

NOTICE OF WITHDRAWAL

We require a written notice two weeks prior to withdrawal. Failure to give written notice will result in a two week charge to your account (full price to compensate for the loss of tuition due to absence with no notice).

HEALTH AND WELFARE

Your child’s health is a matter of major importance to ALL of us. Upon enrollment, you must fill out several papers. All children must be immunized in accordance with the requirements of the Department of Health and Social Services. Please return these papers ASAP.

A visual inspection is given upon arrival at the Center. Your child will be sent home if symptoms of illness appear. In such cases, you will be called immediately.

In order to keep the spread of germs to a minimum, PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME IF THEY HAVE:

• Fever of 101. They may not return to day care until the fever is below 101 for 24 hours. 
• Symptoms of a communicable disease. They may not return to day care until symptoms have subsided for 24 hours.
• Diarrhea or other flu-like symptoms.  They may not return to day care until symptoms have subsided for 24 hours.

Please note:  This means if we send your child home one day for any of the above symptoms – they may not return the next day.

We are not medical professionals, but if symptoms appear resembling contagious infections, it is our responsibility to the children and to the teachers, to call and ask you to have your child examined by a professional.

Possible contagious viruses we will call you to have checked out:

• Conjunctivitis – Pink Eye (Eye Infection)
• Chicken Pox – Clear, fluid filled blisters
• Impetigo – Crusty sores
• Fifth’s Disease – Blotchy, flat, red rash w/white outline
• Scarlet Fever – Blotchy flat red rash
• Ring Worm – round Crusty Patches
• Lice – white eggs or nits on scalp or hair

Your child may come to the Center if cold symptoms are present; for example, slight cough or runny nose. If children have been exposed to a communicable disease, the Center will notify you so you can watch for possible symptoms. Please notify us of outside exposure so we can watch for possible symptoms as well.   Please update emergency information as soon as possible.

ACCIDENTS AND EMERGENCIES

Every effort is made to prevent accidents. However, in case of an accident, the procedure is as follows: Limited first aid will be given by an authorized school personnel.

A parent is called in an emergency case. If parents are unreachable, those listed on the emergency cards will be called.

Professional emergency care will be utilized.

Medication
It is our policy to administer Doctor prescribed medication to children. We will not give over-the-counter cough medicines, cough drops or fever medicine. You must fill out a Medicine Authorization form, located on each classroom’s Parent Board.

Abuse/Neglect
Should staff suspect possible abuse or neglect, observations and dates must be documented. The Director/Program Director will report suspicions to Department of Health and Social Services under penalty of law.

The first five years of a child’s life are so important to their development, social and emotional well-being. We want your child to feel safe, loved and challenged while in our care. We will do our best to promote a positive self-image and help your child grow socially and emotionally.

Discipline
The three forms of discipline we use at Extended Love are Positive Reinforcement, Redirection and Time Outs.

1. Positive Reinforcement is always used by the teachers to verbally acknowledge a child’s behavior.
2. Redirection - If a child is involved in an inappropriate activity, he/she will be verbally warned that misbehavior is not allowed and it must stop. If after several warnings, the child continues to misbehave, they will be removed from the area they are in and brought to another area until they can return to the group and play appropriately.
3. Time Outs – If a child still cannot refrain from inappropriate behavior, they will then be placed on a time-out. The teachers will place them at the table or on a chair where they can settle down. The child may then return to the group when they are ready to play appropriately. The length of the time out is 1 minute for each year of age. Time outs are used for children three and older.

NUTRITION

Breakfast will be served from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. Your child must be here before 7:45 if you want them to have breakfast.

Lunch will be served between 11:15 and 12:00. If you want your child to eat with us, please have them here by 11:00. If your child is not here before 11:00 you must provide lunch for your child prior to dropping him or her off.

Afternoon snack will be served between 2:30 and 3:00.

A monthly menu will be posted in the main hallway next to the kitchen door. All menus have been sent to the State of Wisconsin, Department of Health for nutritional approval.

If your child has allergies and cannot have our prepared lunch, you may pack him/her a lunch provided you let the office know. If your child is allergic to a particular fruit, tell the teacher and we will substitute that fruit for another.

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION

Birthdays – We celebrate birthdays during the mid-morning. Treats are welcome. Some suggestions, if you have a toddler: rice crispy treats, brownies, fruit snacks, jello jigglers, fruit, carrots, cookies, (cupcakes and cake are very messy. Little ones either eat the top or the bottom and leave the rest.)

Important Note: about Birthday Parties  Birthday party invitations may not be brought to school to hang or place in children’s baskets unless the entire class is invited.  Children who are not invited will most definitely have hurt feelings, so you will have to send them on your own by mail.   An address list will be furnished upon request. Those parents who give consent for their address to be given out must sign the Parental Consent Form/Agreement.

Toys from Home – Please do not allow your child to bring in toys from home.  We will not be responsible for any lost or broken toys brought from home.

On Show-N-Tell Day your child may bring in an object of interest from home and tell us about it.  Please check with your child’s teacher for details.

NO GUNS, WAR TOYS OR OTHER TOYS OF DESTRUCTION. These items are not allowed at our Center. When a child needs to express feelings of aggression, we suggest pounding clay, punching bags, or blocks.
